Well, you must have seen it already or heard about it somewhere that a nasty rumor is going on about the French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron. It all started when two women made videos on this topic separately, but it all took off when Candace Owens joined in. And now, it is quite literally a big thing, so much so that the Macrons are frustrated with these rumors and now they’re suing Candace Owens in return, and that’s what we’re calling this Candace Owens Lawsuit. So, if you don’t know what the rumor is, how it spread, and where things stand now, just keep on reading.
Where Did This All Begin?
In December 2021, a lie/rumor twisted its way through France like wildfire that Brigitte Macron, the First Lady, used to be a man named Jean-Michel Trogneux. The source of such a claim was a very long YouTube video (almost four hours) made by two women: one who called herself a “spiritual medium” and the other an “independent journalist.”
The reach of this video was so enormous that it went viral, racking up more than 500,000 views in just a few hours and rapidly spreading on social media. Many people mocked the rumor, yet there were some folks who believed it, and in fact, France was already managing the fallout of political unrest there.
The Macrons were at first very angry and sued the women who made the video in France. A Paris court in 2024 condemned these women to pay the Macrons damages. But in July 2025, the decision was overturned by the appeals court. They have now brought the issue before the French Supreme Court.
However, the rumor was still alive and thriving, and it was at this moment that Candace Owens appeared on the scene.
Candace Owens’ Involvement
Candace Owens not only referred to the rumor but also made it more viral. By having such a large audience, she created a series of eight videos called “Becoming Brigitte,” where she went on and on with the idea that Brigitte Macron was, from the beginning, a male.
Besides, Owens added a few more accusations. She stated the Macrons were very closely related, Brigitte was asked to do illegal acts, and suggested a wide cover-up without giving any proof. She even made money from it by selling merchandise that included T-shirts with a fake “Man of the Year” magazine cover featuring Brigitte Macron.
The lawyers of Macron said that they sent warning letters to Owens containing evidence to stop her from spreading lies. Nevertheless, Owens kept on, making money from the videos and increasing her audience.
The U.S. Lawsuit, aka the Candace Owens Lawsuit
In July 2025, the Macrons took 219 pages of defamation lawsuit against Owens to the Delaware Superior Court. Delaware is famous for dealing with major lawsuits, which is probably the reason why they chose to file there.
The lawsuit includes 22 counts of defamation. The Macrons’ legal team that is also known for the Dominion Voting Systems vs. Fox News $787 million defamation case, alleges that Owens’ “global campaign of humiliation” against Brigitte repeatedly incited, in which Brigitte was put under public ridicule and attacked.
The allegations don’t just refer to a transgender rumor. In addition, Owens accused Brigitte Macron of raping Emmanuel when he was a minor, hinted that they are relatives, and implied committing crimes like murder and bribery. The lawyers of the Macrons say that the accusations are made up and the Macrons have submitted corroborating evidence such as birth certificates, pictures, and family details that confirm Brigitte’s identity, and history.
Although the Macrons haven’t revealed the precise amount that they are pursuing, their lawyers have suggested that the amount will be very large, particularly if Owens continues these allegations further before the trial.
