For those who were born before the 90s era, they would certainly remember Garth Brooks, as he was one of the most famous singers and songwriters of that time. And right now, he is in the headlines once again, after all those years. But keep in mind, this time, he is being talked about not for the right reasons, actually. See, recently, we saw this Garth Brooks Lawsuit, in which he is being sued for his alleged sexual harassment of a woman, who used to work for his wife as a hairstylist and makeup artist. So, if you’re shocked to see Garth Brooks’ name come up in such a case, well then keep on reading the details because there is more to it.
The Background, Like What Happened?
This case is all about the woman who uses the name Jane Roe in court so that her identity is not disclosed. She was a hairstylist and makeup artist, like initially for Trisha Yearwood (wife of Garth Brooks) from 1999, and after that for Garth Brooks, roughly from 2017.
In fact, Roe is saying that in 2019, at a Grammy event work trip in Los Angeles, she was sexually assaulted by Garth Brooks. She insists to the New Yorker that on that trip, he violated her in a very serious way.
Following that, in September 2024, Garth initiated legal action in Mississippi. His allegation? Firstly, Roe blackmailed him by vowing to disclose her accusations unless he gave her a huge sum of money. To this, Roe responded in November 2024 with a countersuit in California, wherein she detailed sexual assault and work harassment by him.
So essentially, he sued her first, and then she sued him back. That’s where it all started.
What Is Garth Brooks Saying?
Garth’s lawyers are of the opinion that the case is fabricated from the ground up. He boasts that Roe was angry because she had not been promoted to a full-time job plus benefits, and that these charges were simply made after she had not gotten the kind of work security she was aiming at.
Garth claims that, along with one other letter, Roe sent him a couple of letters that requested a large amount of money and also informed him that if he didn’t pay, then she would reveal everything. His staff states that this was an effort to intimidate him by discrediting his personal integrity and thereby getting him to resolve this matter by way of a money settlement.
At first, the legal action of Garth against Roe was accompanied by a wide range of requests, such as obtaining a sum of money for harm done to the plaintiff and even a legal opinion stating that the claims of Roe were straight-up incorrect. Eventually, he limited the extent and was mainly looking for monetary compensation for the damage to his reputation.
What Jane Roe Is Claiming
Though so far we know that Jane Roe has a completely different version of the events. She claims that the mishap occurred in 2019 when they went to L.A. In her words, Garth took her on his private jet and then “made a hotel reservation at a place where there was only one suite and only one bed”.
According to her, Garth assaulted her when they got there. In addition, she mentions being sexually abused, being suspended by her feet, and being coerced into performing acts. The day after, she says Garth pretended that there was no incident and went on with work as normal.
On top of this, Roe highlights that the harassment persisted for a time period; she cites not only offensive remarks but also bizarre letters and even occurrences when Garth supposedly exited the shower without his clothes in front of her.
