It’s not that rare to see some big company, especially in the food and beverage industry, saying that their products are natural, but the reality is far from it. Well, that is pretty much the case with LMNT, you know, the  super popular electrolyte drink mix marketed as “clean,” “all-natural,” and “keto-friendly.” But was that actually the case, though? See, from the looks of it, this company is in big trouble. This is precisely the reason why we’re seeing this LMNT Lawsuit in action, and if you aren’t familiar with the details of this case yet, well, just keep on reading.

LMNT Lawsuit

First of All, What is LMNT?

LMNT used to be a famous brand of electric drinks that the health and fitness community greatly appreciated. It is largely loved by users of the keto and paleo diets because of its straightforward marketing: “All the good stuff and none of the bad.”

This firm positions the drinks as clean and lacking “suspicious ingredients”, which is a great marketing strategy to attract and keep loyal customers who are wary of their health. However, the lawsuit says that this might not be the case altogether. Then?

What Does the LMNT Lawsuit Claim?

The lawsuit claims that LMNT drinks are full of maltodextrin, a processed food additive that is frequently used as a filler or a thickener. This component is not referred to on the product label. According to the lawsuit, it is being kept out of sight within the umbrella term “natural flavors.”

On every serving of LMNT that is supposed to be free of 300 to 450 milligrams of maltodextrin. That amount is quite considerable, especially for the followers of keto diets since maltodextrin is capable of raising blood sugar levels. Besides, it has also been associated with some digestive issues.

LMNT will be if these accusations hold true. In fact, the alleged presence of maltodextrin in LMNT products is in direct conflict with the brand’s advertisement of their products as clean and healthful.

What is the Status of the Lawsuit?

The class action lawsuit is a legal suit where multiple customers have coalesced to take LMNT to court. It is a New York filed case, which geographically extends over all persons who have bought LMNT liquids during the legally permitted period (statute of limitations).

LMNT is blamed in the lawsuit for deceiving customers and breaching the consumer protection laws. However, their catch: LMNT’s conditions mandate that any dispute is solved through arbitration rather than a regular court. This could complicate the procedure from the consumers’ point of view, but would not render it unfeasible.

Can Customers Receive Compensation?

In the event that the lawsuit goes in their favor, customers might have the right to receive compensation. In accordance with consumer protection regulations, the highest sum may reach $550. Nevertheless, this is not assured and is contingent upon the development of the case or if LMNT chooses to settle.

At this point in time, there is no payout or settlement plan in place.

Important Dates and Eligibility

The court action is recent and still in progress. No final deadlines or dates for settlements have been set yet.
